Father/Daughter Biking

So I got my wisdom teeth out on Friday. Someone else got them out this summer - Katie, was it you? - and I am jealous that you are weeks away from it now. The first night I couldn't sleep despite the drugs and I think it is because I spent all day either sleeping or staring at the TV. Ditto to yesterday, adding pulling back my lip to look at the stitches (they're gross but sort of fascinating). Today I was itching to get moving, go on a walk, or do something other than watch TV - although there was a cycle 4 ANTM marathon yesterday! - but I don't think the cheeks are quite up for the bounciness of running yet or the pressure of rowing/erging yet.

My dad has gotten really into biking this summer, he got himself a snazzy new bike with the clip-in shoes and a speedometer and everything, and he suggested we go biking. I have the cheapo purple mountain bike I bought in DC to get around, and I warned him it'd take me like 25 minutes to go five and a half miles to the boathouse this summer, but he said he didn't mind waiting up so we went to go give it a try. Man, I am a slow biker. I held my own on the long flat stretches or gradual inclines all right, but steep hills- oof. My quads are going to be sore! I'd look up and see my dad spinning his wheels, trying not to topple over because he was going up the hill so slow and it was all I could do to keep up. He had a little rearview mirror he could use to look back and see me huffing and puffing and trying not to pop my stitches as I tried to pull over the top of the hill. Luckily, my heart rate (if not my quads) was able to recover pretty quickly on the downhills, so I was at least able to finish the bike ride. It was pretty fun to whoosh down the hills. A nice reward anyway.

Oh, and I obviously brought my Garmin, because I love that watch with all my heart. 13 miles in 59 minutes. Apparently the free-falling feeling of going downhill was balanced out by the 8mph uphills.... heh. I told my dad sorry but I did warn him, and he tried to be all nice and gentlemanly and said it was a workout for him too. Then he admitted that he also did 20 miles earlier in the morning.

I unfortunately don't have any photos of the bike ride. I do have a photo of two bags of frozen vegetables strapped to my swollen cheeks, which I will not post, but I will say it disproves the theory of 5 seat always looking perfect. As if all the photos from this spring didn't already.

  1. I did get my wisdom teeth out, and I had dry socket! I was actually driving by the next day though (the Inman family doesn't stop if you have minor surgery.. so I just dealt with it). I needed hydrocodone to go to sleep every night though... and i overdosed on advil so much that my ears were ringing... but that's ok. It's over now. And I feel much better after not permanently losing feeling in my lip (serious concern of the doctors because of my nerve placement). BTW. I LOVE BIKING. :) So. If you're ever in Indy I will bike with you!

  2. Ugh, a dry socket? That must have been horrible! I've been having really bad pain from my back molars shifting to fill the space, and they say that can last a few weeks. Great. Can't wait until the night where I can sleep eight straight hours without waking up with horrible jaw pain. I thought maybe I had a dry socket because it hurt so much (but, both sides) but I went to get the stitches out and they were like, no, it's normal to hurt that much, here's some more extra strength advil, deal with it. Dry sockets are MORE painful. So I seriously feel for you.

Well, I have no plans to be in Indiana sadly, but I will for sure bike with you sometime this season. I'll have that purple mountain bike with me! I am attempting another ride with my dad on Saturday. He has chosen a flat route, so hopefully we'll be a little quicker! But he wants to pick up the pace.....

And I have to say that you do basically look perfect all the time and I won't even make a showering comment here:)
    I fixed the purple though.
Why am I posting this on the blog? Oh well I have a bunch of tabs open and switching is hard.
