hi team! today i did a sprint triathlon. here's a photo of me, my sister (on the right) and a friend of ours before the race. it was a lot of fun! they sent us out in waves based on age, so we were some of the last people on the course, which meant i did a lot of passing. i got to ride my dad's super fancy racing bike, and my uncle left some bike shoes that fit me at our house for the summer, so i was all set for bike equipment. also, i've been watching bike races recently, so in addition to passing people on straightaways (and hills) i burned everyone on the corners. manyan would have been proud of my course. the bike took a long time (48 minutes!) but it was super fun (and i didn't even fall with the clip-in shoes!!). i sort of wish i could do a bike race for every workout; i forgot how great it is not to worry about cars and just go! i averaged 18.4 mph, which i thought was fast until i remembered how fast the tour de france riders average.
here's a photo of me finishing the swim, super excited to start the bike.
anyway, i finished the bike and ran into the bike corral to find the place where i left my gear (there were 2500 participants total so the corral was huge), only to find my place, take off my bike shoes and realize my running shoes were gone. i looked along my row of bikes and all around me and found nothing. who steals running shoes btw? i sat down on the pavement, cried a little and considered whether it would be better to try the 5k run barefoot or in bike shoes. i put my bike shoes back on and somehow finished the run in them. i even got a special call-out at the finish line, because my mom told the announcer about my shoe situation. so i felt pretty badass! sadly i wasted 5 minutes on the transition between the bike and the run, and i was 5:30 off first place in my age group. i ended up getting 3rd but my family wanted to get home so i didn't get to step up to the podium to get my bling.
i hope everyone is having a good summer! also everyone should do triathlons because they are super fun.
You're soo cooool! (Somehow that came out sounding like Paige)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you did the run in bike shoes and still got 3rd in your group. You're such a badass!
AW YEAH sweet uni. This is such a badass post! Also that coming out of the water photo is like my favorite thing ever. I like this taking photos in our unis and posting it idea.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad this uni-picture trend is starting. Soon to come: me, not working out, in uni. It'll be flattering. Also, you're a total badass Mere. That's awesome. I think everyone should do Sprint Triathlons. You don't have to train too hard.. and the swim isn't that bad if you aren't very competitive.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Serious props for running in cycling shoes. As one who knows how awkward bike shoes are to WALK in, bravo!
