I recently completed a pack of each of the three Trident Layers varieties. I hadn't been shewing Trident lately for their lack of interesting flavors, opting usually for Orbit who cranks out new flavors like nobody's business. Anyways I was intrigued by the combination of flavors and decided to go for it. Note: this is not a flavor changing gum, just two flavors going on at once and most harmoniously I might add.
The first was Strawberry Citrus a pleasant yet fairly generic flavor combination. I would say it tastes more citrus than strawberry but there was definitely a good balance of sweet and tangy. Next was the Apple Pineapple flavor. This was a far more unique flavor combination and simply delicious. For a while I was alternately chewing Strawberry Citrus and Apple Pineapple, they are about equally tasty and it keeps things interesting not to chew one whole pack before moving on. But then there was Melon Mint. I am usually wary of fruit-mint combinations. There is a high possibility that they will taste like cough medicine. Melon Mint is a wonderful exception. The initial experience of a new piece of Melon Mint is magical, almost too good to be true. Just enough mint and the most pleasing honey dew melon taste. I was in love. The joy is short lived, however, as Melon Mint tends to lose that miraculous flavor quickly (within the first couple minutes) and fades into a bland nothingness that tastes neither minty nor melony. My feelings about this phenomenon is somewhere between benign disappointment and staggering heartbreak. I think Melon Mint is worth trying but it definitely does not stand up to the standards of a lightweights chewing habits. A tragic loss for sure. But I didn't notice such dramatic flavor loss with Strawberry Citrus and Apple Pineapple so those are still prime candidates.
