Hola from La Jolla

Hey everyone! I hope everyone is having a relaxing break. I'm out in La Jolla with my family (and cousin and aunt and uncle). This place is nice and sunny, but MAN is it hilly. I have been running along the coast and the hills, they are killing me. But sometimes I get to stop and take awesome pictures like this:
Those are seals sunbathing on rocks, in case you can't tell. It was pretty weird. I'm pretty sure I've only seen seals at the aquarium and the zoo.

Speaking of the zoo, we went to the San Diego Zoo yesterday! It is a really big zoo and hard to navigate (I got lost on my way to meeting my family at the polar bears) but it's a pretty neat place. Like everywhere else here it has a lot of hills, and really, really steep ones too. Walking up and down hills for like five hours yesterday was absolutely killer on my legs. Definitely felt that when I woke up this morning.

Anyway, all the animals at the zoo got christmas presents, or it looked that way, because they all had boxes they'd shredded in their cages. The sloth bear was the cutest, I think. He was just gnawing on his box like it was the best part of the present:

He kind of started reclining back on his butt, and my mom goes, "good stomach muscles!!" (My mom, like my dad, has been working a lot on her core strength, so of course she noticed that). But then he rolled back a bit too far and tumbled onto his back. Then he tried to roll up but couldn't, so he rolled around on his back like an upside down turtle, still gnawing on his box. "Just kidding, TERRIBLE stomach muscles," my mom noted. It was adorable. That bear just did not give a fuck.

I went to the gym this morning to use the erg and on a break some guy asked how much longer I'd be on the machine. I felt bad because I still had about 30' (29' to be exact!) but I didn't want to OFFER to cut my workout short, so luckily he said he didn't mind biking for another 30' and didn't want to interrupt my workout. I really like meeting understanding people at the gym and I had another 6' or so of rest ticking down on the clock so I chatted with him about erging. He said he had one on his yacht (oh, La Jolla residents, the wealth/cars/houses/boats/country clubs will never cease to amaze me) and has got his whole crew addicted. I wanted to ask him if he put the erg backwards on his yacht deck and pretended he was actually rowing, but he probably didn't and I didn't want to seem weird so I didn't.

Anyway, La Jolla is fun and all, but it will be nice to go home. I have to share a room with my sisters and one of them snores like a truck (I won't say which one) which means if I wake up in the middle of the night, I'm up for good unless I go sleep on the floor in my parents room. Seriously. It's awful. Also, I am sick of running up hills. It's fun once in a while but the grades here are RIDICULOUS. I miss flat flat boston. If I want hills, I'll just go do a stadium. Also, I think I got some food poisoning from fondue. Probably more my fault than La Jolla's, but it was still not a fun way to start christmas morning. It was either that or a super bad migraine but now I associate puking with fondue and I never want it again (except for maybe that chocolate dessert. But no more undercooked chicken).

One week until FLORIDA!!!
