Houston!!!

Hey everyone! Here in Houston it is nice and hot and humid.  I have been spending a lot of time in the pool and in the AC.  Even though Houston is a sprawling city and everything is HUGE here like the highways and this 3 story driving range:

There are literally restaurants EVERYWHERE.  No matter what intersection or road you find yourself driving (because that is the only way to get around) there is a wide selection of places to stop for food.  In this wonderful city I have found a new level of food love. The major activity here is eating, people really really love their food here (they have to keep all these restaurants in business).

But besides eating I had a fantastic experience at the office gym.  In the course of the first 10 minutes into my steady state erg 5 different people sat down on the erg next to me.  I got to witness some truly awesome erging skills.  I am still laughing about the guy who began to do those rad oblique twists Katie Inman shared! (Here if you didn't witness this ridiculous video http://on.aol.com/video/rowing-machine-tips-517194057)  He literally followed all the steps of this video, even the "sprinting" technique!  I swore he must have watched it recently.  But he seemed completely oblivious to the horrible sound the chain was making rubbing against the side of the erg. He tired out pretty quickly, despite trying to impress his lady friend who he was talking to the entire time.

I will say that the last guy who sat down set the monitor up for 10000m and I was impressed that he actually knew how to work the monitor. But it was rough going with lots of heaving and I was a little worried. That was the extent of excitement for my first day using the corporate gym, but apparently there are yoga, zumba, and kickboxing classes which will provide sufficient embarrassment for me and I will instead be the entertainment for everyone else.  There is even a 5:30am cycling class which I might have to try out and fall apart in.

Hope everyone is having a relaxing summer and getting pumped up to stay in shape, and getting faster by working out and trying some new fun things!

  1. Take all the fun classes :) Maybe we can all do zumba as a team for one practice in the fall

  2. Oh yeah I did the Zumba class this week and it was a lot of fun! I was super awkward because I had no rhythm and all the older ladies were much better than me, but it kinda reminded me of the funky dance party circuits that sometimes occurred
