I Heart the Pacific Northwest

While everyone else is out traveling the world, I've been enjoying the summer at home with my fam. Aka doing all the outdoorsy things :D The first week I got back my dad and I went mountain biking three times, and I discovered how rusty I was by falling off a bridge. Don't worry Amelia, I was wearing my helmet! And sustained zero injuries.
Proof of helmet

I've also been rowing with my old high school team (yeah Rose City!) which is super fun. And unfortunately at 5:45am. But I work about two blocks from the boathouse, so that's super convenient. I've been doing work-study at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, which is basically a children's museum and thus super fun. I get to run a 3D printer, help kids with chemistry experiments, and make up activities for visitors. And clean goggles. A lot of goggles.

Beautiful mountain! Jk we are lost.

My biggest adventure this summer has been going backpacking with my friend Elena and her dog. We went up on Mount Hood and managed to get lost for an hour just trying to find the trailhead. When we finally started hiking, we went for about two hours before we ran into a glacial river. And we realized that the dog doesn't swim. And I tried to cross the river with my pack on, got about halfway, and fell in. So we decided not to risk our lives and turned around, heading the opposite direction on the PCT. It was about 5pm and we had no idea if there were even any campsites that direction, and then the dog almost fell off a waterfall, and then we hit another glacial river. Thwarted again by melted snow, we turned around and settled in at a campsite with a super beautiful view of the mountain, and the rest of the trip was far less eventful.

Elena, being super cool
Our kitchen: yay, freeze-dried food!

Today I ran a half-marathon with my mom and (twin) sister at Blue Lake. We crossed the finish line at 1:53 and all won our age categories, because the race was so small (my sister and I were the only competitors in the 16-19 age range, but hey).

The best part of the race was passing a girl wearing a BU jersey. I'm pretty sure she was a cross-country runner, but I was pretending she was a rower the whole time. I can't wait to get back to racing in the fall with you all and kick some (BU) butt!

Lots of love,
Rachel

P.S. Idk how to format this blog properly and the wonky margins of this post are really bothering me, sorry if they bother you too.
