Hi everyone!
So... I'm excited to meet everyone in person, but I guess my lame blog inroductionwill have to do for now:
Soooo...my name is Paige and if you couldn't tell by now, I'm MIT '14!
Sorry my first post is so delayed - Melody, I had gotten your email invite for the blog before but internet in Canada sucks and I JUST got this thin to work wooo!
Alright well seeing as this is a summer workout blog, I guess I should post an update on my summer workouts:
I moved to Canada for the summer to work/ train with the Toronto Argonaut Rowing club. It's pretty fun, except I have to wake up at 5:40 to go row before work. I was previously practicing/racing in a four, but for the rest of the summer I will be focusing on a pair an sculling in a single or double.
Sorry this post is short, but it's late and I have to wake up early :((( I'll be sure to post again soon though!
PS can I exploit this blog to ask nooby freshmen questions? ie. Can anyone explain the HASS-D lottery? Is this thing mandatory? I actually have no idea what it really is/ how to research the classes to register for/ if I even have to register for HASS-D?? ahh I'm not even a freshmen yet and I'm already feeling overwhelmed! Any advice?
Paige
you should email the coordinator / contact they give for hass-d lottery. I asked the same questions last year and she explained everything to me. I could answer everything on here.. but I have a feeling the lady might be more helpful because there are so many conditions in which you would/would not have to enter the lottery and it's all dependent on classes you want to take, etc. Yeah... it's easier just to email her.
ReplyDeleteYAY! I can't wait to meet you! Have a great summer!

Ahh yes! finally :) Hi!
ReplyDeletenooby freshmen questions are more than welcome haha. I think HASS-D requirements have changed for your year, but the lottery process should be the same. It's technically not required, but if you don't enter it and you want to take a HASS-D, you'll have to take an open class, which means tons of people didn't sign up for it, which means maybe its not that good... but not necessarily.

that is a link of an advanced search of the student.mit.edu course listing where it was filtered to show HASS-D classes. So you can find course descriptions there. Hope that helps!
Nice to internet-meet you, Paige!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having fun in Canada (even if the internet sucks...don't worry, the internet at MIT is seriously amazing). Are you from Michigan or Wisconsin or New York or somewhere nearby? Or did you completely relocate? Also, the Argonauts is an awesome name for a club. I hope you get lots of shirts or unis that say Argonauts on them. Also did you celebrate Canada Day?
As for the HASS-D thing, what mkuna said...it's technically not required but it doesn't hurt to enter it (you won't be forced to take the class that you get in the lottery or anything). So unless you know for sure that you do not want to take a HASS-D (like if you are taking a language class or something), then there's not reason not to enter.
And most, if not all of us, love n00by freshman questions!
