Yeah, imagine you are on a bike doing a rather hard and long workout and a pickup truck pulls up next to you. So far this is not unusual, but now imagine that on the back of this pickup truck somebody mounted a stationary bike and on it sits a person casually riding away while being much, much faster than you. A very frustrating thought...at least for me!
Soooo, three days ago on the Charles I had a very similar experience, although it made me and all the other singles around me (yeah, the river is pretty busy at around 6pm in the summer!) laugh out loud the first time we saw it!
…Later it got a little frustrating for me as the boats passed me another two times: The eights were doing pieces while I was just rowing steady-state and stroke rate 18 does not get you very far when eights are doing pieces next to you… I wish you guys could have seen it in action on the river!!! Poor guy on the erg though: He had to erg at the same rate as eight(s) next to the boat, which made a funny picture when the eight was at stroke rate 36 :D
Oh, and did you know that there are little jumping fish in the Charles? Between 5:30 and 7am, there are whole swarms of these tiny silver fish close to the riverbanks on both sides! The orange sunlight reflecting off their scales is a very beautiful sight!!!
I hope your summer is going great and I am so excited to row with all of you again come September!:)
Sabine
PS: This is not quite rowing or workout related, but in lab we accidentally stained this really cool tissue slide (it is desmoplastic cancer tissue… I can tell you all about what you are actually seeing on this slide if you are interested ;) ) and I thought I would share it!
